TRURO, N. S. – Adam McEachren’s Truro rink swept its way to the top at the Nova Scotia under-18 men’s curling championship.

The Mceachren foursome defeated Ethan Young from Mayflower 7-4 in the provincial final at Truro Curling Club to earn a spot at the national championship in Sherwood Park, Alta., April 2 to 7

Mceachren posted an overall record of 4-1 and defeated Nick Mosher of CFB Halifax 8-5 in a semifinal.

“We didn’t play to our potential in the first three games,” said coach Anthony Purcell. “We started rather mediocre, but we got a chance to go home and rest before the final and they played amazing.”

In the final, the Truro rink, which includes third Owen Purcell, second Alex Mcdonah and lead Scott Weagle, scored three in the second and fourth ends on its way to victory.

Purcell and Weagle will be attending their second straight national championship. In 2018, Purcell skipped his own team – that included Weagle – to a gold medal at the U18 Canadian championship in Saint Andrews, N.B.

Four other Truro teams took part in the provincial event. In the boys division, rinks skipped by Calan Macisaac and David McCurdy finished with 1-2 records. On the girls’ side, Sarah Mcdo- nah went 1-2 and Ally Macnutt was winless in two games.

Mayflower’s Cally Moore won the girls title and will represent Nova Scotia next month at nationals.
