Yoga East deals with mind and body

TRURO, N.S. – Jen Collins has made a lot of changes in her life during the past year.

She was living in Ontario and decided she wanted a chance of pace, so she moved to Nova Scotia, got married and started her own business.

She opened Yoga East in the former Body Solace location on Nov. 1.

“I’m very happy with the move,” she said. “The stars aligned, and everything fell into place.”

Collins’s mother is from Oxford, so she often spent summers in Nova Scotia, and enjoyed being in the area. She now lives in Wentworth.

“A friend brought me to one of Danielle’s (Crowell) classes and shortly after that I was asked about teaching. I taught for about 15 years in Ontario, so I was happy to do it again.

“I’ve loved yoga since I took my first Ashtanga class almost 20 years ago. It helps me stay grounded, helps with core strength and flexibility, and helped mentally and emotionally. I had three back surgeries and it helped me recover from those, as well as making me healthier going into the surgeries.”

When Danielle Crowell and Lorraine Crowe decided they no longer wanted to run Body Solace, Collins felt it was a great opportunity to operate her own studio.

“I was nervous and excited, but Lorraine and Danielle are still teaching, and they’ve been very supportive and helpful,” she said.

Crowe’s Rain Natural Skincare products will continue to be sold at the studio.

A variety of classes are offered, including functional fitness, mellow flow, flow yoga, Pilates-fusion, flow and restore yoga, and chair yoga. New members can take advantage of a special that will allow them to try a variety of classes to discover what suits them best.

“Yoga is for everybody,” said Collins. “Some people say they’re not flexible enough, but yoga will help with that.”

A grand opening, with free classes, will be held Sunday, Dec. 15.

Yoga East is located at 14 Court Street, in the back of the Superstore building. More information on instructors and classes can be found on the Yoga East website at https://www.yogaeast.ca, on Facebook, by emailing jen@yogaeast.ca or by calling 902-305-6010.
