TRURO, N.S. – A former teacher will be the Nova Scotia Liberal Party’s candidate for Truro-bible Hill-millbrooksalmon River.

Allan Kennedy was chosen Saturday in Truro for the provincial by-election to replace former MLA Lenore Zann. He won the nomination ove fellow candidate Alison Graham Fulmore, a community volunteer who Kennedy says will play a major role in his upcoming campaign.

“Alison is a dedicated member of this community. I am truly honoured to have the support of someone of such calibre and integrity,” said Kennedy. “I intend to be a strong voice for education, social programs, employment opportunities and climate change.”

Kennedy said improving the health and well-being of people in the riding drove him to seek the nomination.

He previously served as a teacher, vice principal and principal.

“As an educator, I’ve always believed in the value of hard work. I will make sure your concerns are my concerns, and if elected, I will always represent the best interests of our communities,” he added.

Premier Stephen Mcneil welcomed Kennedy to the Liberal team, saying he has “tremendous dedication to serving his community.”

A by-election date for Trurobible Hill-millbrook-salmon River has not yet been announced by Mcneil..

Kennedy will be facing Progressive Conservative candidate Dave Ritcey, the NDP’S Kathleen Kevany, the Green Party of Nova Scotia’s Ivan Drouin and independent Matthew Rushton.

The NDP represented the riding from 2009, until Zann resigned in the summer to run as a Liberal in the recent federal election.
