A flurry of Christmas gift suggestions from your Saltwire meteorologist

- CINDY DAY weathermail@weatherbyday.ca @Cindydayweather Cindy Day is Saltwire Network’s Chief Meteorologist.

Well. two weeks from Tuesday only the die-hard will be shop-ping: scene people enjoy the rush they get from the holiday crowds we hours before the stores close. My broths Ronnie is one of them

Every year. after the morning milking on Christmas Eve. he'd hop in his truck and head Inc the mall in 0, raw all. Ont. I ri not sure how he chd it, bct he was always back in new for the titling chars and his shopping was done. We are Si Mar in many ways het that is not one of them I plan months in advance and I make an entry in a journal each tine I add things to my 'gift closet: For the most pan. my shopping is usu any wrapped up by Dec. 1.

I thought perhaps I could give you a hand with your shopping - at least tou out some ideas. Over the years. rye come to real-ize that many Martinets are obsessed with the weather. So. kit's go ow: a few of my favourite weather pallets.

I think my favourite weather Gift is the Mariner'. Weather Glass. Many )ran ago. these were t tate of-the-art barometers. They were used on ships to warn sailors impending storms. They work we as well today: Water slowly rises and (.114 in the spout as the air pressure changer. It corns with a mounting bracket and :available at Home Hard ware stores and Lee Valley Tact.

For the gardener on your list. a digital weather station is a neat Across Atlantic Canada. Ix al topography is such that micro. &mates exist and temperatures vary considerably over a short distance The same can be said for rainfall. When I visn grade 5 students who are studying the weather unit. I sec some pretty fancy homemade rain gauges. I suppose you could make your own or pick one up at a garden centre or hardware MOW.

In keeping with the rain, low about a pretty umbrella? We're so particular about accessories, why not have a few colour-ful umbrellas to brighten up an otherwise dull day? I love a nice umbrella, in fact I collect them!

Now that my offerings are in print and online, why not pick up a newspaper or online subscrip-tion for that person who doesn't want any more 'things" but loves to stay informed. It's a perfect gift for someone who has moved away and ... no parcel to mail. Click here https://www.saltwire.corn/subscribe/ for more details about that.

Last but not least, may I also suggest a copy of Grandma Says! My little book of weather folk-lore is back on store shelves, and pretty easy to wrap! You can also order them online through amazon.ca

I hope one of these suggestions will be the perfect gift for the armchair meteorologist in your life.

?? ?? On a day like today, a rain gauge might come in quite handy. After a heavy September rain, Laurel Zwicker’s rain gauge looked like this. Lots of rain that day in Trout Lake, Annapolis County, N.S.
