Velma May Sutton, 83, Truro, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2019 at home with her family by her side. Born in Maitland, NS, she was the daughter of the late Horace and Ella (Burns) Hatfield. In her younger years, Velma graduated from the Great Village School and moved to Long Island, NY, where she met her husband James and remained in the United States until 1974 when they immigrated to Canada. She attended St. John’s Anglican Church, Truro and was also a member of the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Maitland. Mom always thought about everyone as equal and never said an unkind word about anyone. She is survived by a son, James of South Maitland; daughters, Hope Workman (Terry) of South Maitland, Christine Sutton (Dan) of Barrie ON, Jill Sutton of Maitland; grandchild­ren, Jennifer, John, Jocelyn, Fausta, DJ, Ella, Alex, Dimick; great-grandchild­ren, Hunter, Blay, Liam, William, Gavin, Xander; brothers, Edward Hatfield (Sandy) of Truro, Arnold Hatfield of Truro, Kenny Hatfield (Odessa) of Yarmouth, Ian Hatfield of Onslow; several nieces and nephews. She was predecease­d by her husband, James Sutton; brothers, Frederick and Earle. Arrangemen­ts are under the direction of the Mattatall~varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. No visitation by request. Funeral service will take place on Friday, Dec. 20th at 2 p.m. in the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Maitland the Reverend Lori Ramsey will officiate with burial to follow in the Holy Anglican Cemetery, Maitland. A reception will follow the burial in the church hall. Donations in memory may be made to the Holy Trinity Building Fund, Maitland.
