Karen Angelena Dykens, 66 of Belmont, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. She was the daughter of the late George and Mildred (Eagles) Dykens. She loved hunting, fishing, camping and in her later years, she enjoyed spending time with her friends, scrapbooki­ng and quilting. Karen also treasured her volunteer work at the Colchester Food Bank. Karen is survived by her daughter, Wanda (Robert) Forrest, Halifax; step-daughters, Joanne (Marshall) Weir, Belmont, Patty Weir, Glenholme; step-son, Percy (Marilyn) Murray, London, ON; brothers, Gerry (Linda) Dykens, Debert, Owen Dykens, Debert; sister, Fern (Doug) Lattie, Truro; ten grandchild­ren; 11 great-grandchild­ren; four great-great-grandchild­ren; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Karen was predecease­d by her husband, Floyd Roode; step-son, F. Greggory Roode; sisters, Marlene and Ellen; brother, James, and sister-in-law, Audrey Dykens. A very special thank you to all the nurses and doctors in the ER, ICU, 3 East Wing and Palliative Care for the wonderful care you all gave while looking after Karen. There will be no visitation or formal funeral service by request. A Gathering in Remembranc­e of Karen, will be held on January 11, 2020, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Debert Legion, all are welcome. A Graveside Service will be held in the spring in the Middle Road Cemetery, Debert for family and friends. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Colchester Food Bank or charity of choice.
