Mommzie’s Doggie Spa pampering pooches in Bible Hill

BIBLE HILL, N.S. – Stephanie Vissers has taken the initiative to do something she’s thought about for years.

Following her dream, she recently opened Mommzie’s Doggie Spa, in Bible Hill.

“I‘ve always had dogs and being around them is very therapeutic,” she said. “No matter how bad a day you have, they’ll show you love so working with them is wonderful.

“It’s important to remember every dog has its own personality, and you have to work with their personality, though. You can’t expect them all to stay still and do what you want.”

Vissers was working full time with VON when she sat down and worked on the plan to open her own business. Now she runs the spa three days a week and works with VON part time. She hopes her business will eventually grow enough that she can be there full time.

“It’s been busier than I expected, which is great,” she said. “I’m getting a good mix of dogs, big and little, and they leave here with a goodie bag. Most people are hearing about this through word of mouth or Facebook.”

"Mommzie" is something she’s been called for a lot of years, so she felt it should be part of the spa name. To create the look she wanted, she used a lot of pink and bling in the decorating and provides tea and coffee for people waiting for their dogs.

Customers can also talk to Clarence, the budgie, while they wait.

Vissers’s services include baths, nail trims, ear cleaning, tooth brushing, grooming and trims. Dogs can also have the nails on their front paws painted with dog-safe "nail pawlish".

Her own dogs, Noah, an 11-year-old golden retriever, and Abby, a nine-year-old pitbull mix, often enjoy spa treatments.

“I was always interested in doing this kind of work so I’m really excited,” said Vissers. “Noah is my best friend and he really inspired me.”

Mommzie’s Doggie Spa is located at 798 College Road and can be contacted by calling 902-893-7297, emailing stephaniedvissers@gmail.com or messaging through the Facebook page at https://www.facebook. com/mommzies-doggiespa-102759541185423/
