- DON CAMERON SPECIAL TO TRURO NEWS

TRURO, N.S. – It’s that time of year again. The holidays have come and gone, and many people are looking to make positive, healthy changes in their lives.

With the New Year arriving, and resolutions being made, why not give tennis a try in 2020?

The tennis community in Truro is growing and you can be a part of it. Tennis is a fantastic sport for those looking to socialize, meet new friends, and have a great work out. A “sport for life”, tennis is an ideal activity for those aged four to 84. If you have always wanted to play, or wonder what it is like, this winter would be a perfect time to give it a go.

The Cougar Dome, a multisport facility specializing in tennis, is located in Truro beside CEC and the Colchester Legion Stadium. At the Cougar Dome you will find a variety of options available from beginner to advance lessons, cardio tennis classes, weekly team tennis, and much more. With four courts and plenty of opportunity to play it’s a great place to come and develop your skills.

For those not interested in competition there are a lot of programs and players who are simply focused on a social, friendly and non-competitive fun. There truly is something for everyone.

You will quickly learn that there’s a real sense of community within the tennis community in Truro and it’s an ideal activity for those looking to expand their social circle and network. Truro and area residents are fortunate to be able to play tennis yearround and members and guests take advantage of the fact they can play rain or shine.

When warm, spring weather arrives, you will begin to see players on the courts of our other facility in town, the Truro Tennis Club. That club has six outdoor courts, a newly renovated clubhouse and is affiliated with the Cougar Dome. The lessons available outdoors in the summer at the club are taught by the pros and instructors of the Cougar Dome.

The Truro Tennis Club is one of the oldest tennis clubs in all of Canada. Established in 1889, the original club was located on Longworth Avenue before moving to its current location on Palmer Street in Victoria Park. The private, non-profit club is overseen by a board and is staffed from late spring to early autumn. Membership options are very accessible, affordable, and welcome for anyone to join.

Both the Cougar Dome and the Truro Tennis Club pride themselves in being inclusive, diverse spaces for anyone to come and feel welcome to play.

For more information on lessons, future try tennis events, and memberships, please contact the Cougar Dome at info@cougardome.ca, or call 902-843-4171. If you’re looking to get in contact with the Truro Tennis Club, email trurotennisclub@hotmail.com. The websites of both facilities are also a good resource if one has questions.

We encourage anyone, of any level, or age, to consider tennis in 2020. Hope to see you on the courts.
