Candidate calls for Liberals to show support for TAAC project
TRURO, N.S. – Dave Ritcey is calling on the provincial Liberals to ensure funding for the Truro Amateur Athletic Club Grounds.
“TAAC Revitalization Project committee members have raised over $600,000 within our community, and secured $1 million in in-kind contributions from the Town of Truro and County of Colchester,” said the local Progressive Conservative candidate for the pending provincial by-election. “It is now time for the Liberal provincial and federal governments to step up and do theirs.”
Ritcey wrote to Communities, Culture and Heritage Minister Leo Glavine regarding the status of the TAAC Revitalization Project on Jan. 3.
Ritcey said other recreation projects in the province have had funding approved, while the Truro region has been ignored by Stephen Mcneil’s Liberals.
He said the “time and effort,” put in by TAAC Grounds volunteers deserved a proper reply from Glavine.
But residents of the Trurobible Hill mill brook salmon River riding have been without an MLA since Lenore Zann entered federal politics last year. No date has been set for a provincial by-election.
“We don’t have anyone representing us at the provincial level, and I’m concerned that the government will either play politics or will continue to ignore this project,” said Ritcey. “Our community, the local athletes and volunteers deserve a state-of-the-art track field. It would be positive for the community and province if Truro could start hosting meets again.”
