Mcisaac traded to Wildcats
TRURO, N.S. – Truro’s Jared Mcisaac, fresh off winning a gold medal for Team Canada, will finish his junior hockey season with the Moncton Wildcats.
The Halifax Mooseheads finalized a deal on Monday that sent the star defenceman to the Wildcats. Halifax also traded winger Raphael Lavoie to the Chicoutimi Sagueneens.
Both deals had been agreed to weeks ago but couldn’t be announced because of the world junior trade freeze.
Mcisaac and Lavoie were busy winning gold for Canada the past few weeks and players are not allowed to be traded by their major junior teams while they are still active in the tournament.
Mcisaac is the second part of a blockbuster that also saw Mooseheads centre Bo Groulx shipped to Moncton.
The final price for the two stars was two first-rounders (2021, 2022), two seconds (2021, 2022), two thirds (2020, 2022) and a fifth (2021).
However, it’s believed most of those picks will be returned to the Wildcats in June for two players to be named later.
It’s expected Halifax will retain Moncton’s
2021 and 2022 first-rounders but Mooseheads GM
Cam Russell wouldn’t comment on that speculation or the prospect of future considerations, except to say the trade “will be judged when the dust settles.”
Mcisaac was drafted second overall by the Mooseheads during the
2016 QMJHL draft, after the Mooseheads selected Groulx first overall. During his first three seasons in Halifax, the six-foot-one, 191-pound blueliner racked up 141 points in 177 regular season games.
He has played in just three games this season after recovering from off-season shoulder surgery.
He was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the second round, 36th overall, in 2018.
