VON offering Sweetheart Treats

- LYNN CURWIN

TRURO, N.S. – It’s time to think about hearts and chocolates, and the VON can help.

The Colchester-east Hants VON is holding its annual Sweetheart Treats fundraiser, offering a Valentine-themed package filled with cheesecake and chocolates for two.

“We made $4,400 with this last year,” said Kathy Lively, chair of the VON Colchestereast Hants Community Corporation. “It’s our major fundraiser and proceeds support VON community programs such as the adult day program, volunteer transportation, Frozen Favourites and Vial of Life.”

She noted the fundraiser provides people with a chance to treat their sweetheart, as well as an opportunity for businesses to treat staff.

This is the fourth year the fundraiser has been held, and she has been involved since the beginning.

“I’m a nurse and I recognize the value of helping and strengthening the community,” she said. “This gives people an enjoyable way to support what we’re doing.”

Jim Flemming, chair of the fundraising committee, has also been helping with the fundraiser since it began.

“I’ve seen VON helping family members and I know how valuable it is,” he said. “I’m glad to be able to support the programs.”

Treats for two are $20 and orders must be placed by Friday, Feb. 7 by contacting Donna Verheuvel at 902893-3803, option 1, extension 313 or Donna.verheuvel@ von.ca

Packages will be available for pickup after noon on Valentine’s Day at the VON offices, 14 Court St., behind Atlantic Superstore, or volunteers will deliver them.
