Bay City Rollers taking decoste stage
PICTOU, N.S. – Rollers icon Les Mckeown and the Bay City Rollers are touring North America and are making a stop in Pictou as part of the decoste Performing Art’s Centre Annual Gala, a fundraiser in support of their Arts Are For Everyone Program.
Mckeown joined the band in 1973 and was lead vocalist on all their biggest hits. The show promises to be a unique voyage back to the 1970s as they perform all the original hits including Bye Bye Baby, Shang-a-lang, Remember, and Give A Little Love... and more. They will also be introducing new songs from the album Lost Songs.
“We are pretty ecstatic to have such a prominent group of the 70s here to help us celebrate a program that is very near and dear to us at the decoste,” says Jennifer Maclennan, marketing manager at the decoste.
Over the past two years, the decoste’s Arts are For Everyone (AAFE) Program has gained great traction.
“Seniors, the visually impaired and those dealing with mental health afflictions are target groups we’ve made a priority for this coming year. Virtually every show has unused seats that we can use for outreach, providing performance experiences to individuals in our community with limited access.”
The 2020 Gala is on Thursday, March 5. The evening begins with a cocktail reception including hors d’oeuvres served by the local roller skaters, The Kicken Vixens beginning at 6:30 p.m. During the pre-show reception there will be an opportunity to purchase balloons for $20 from the Balloon Blast stations for a chance to win prizes, as well as a chance to bid on amazing packages as part of the silent auction.
“While some will likely dress up for the night, it is a fun casual event, Maclennan said. “Many may even be sporting some tartan which the event will be tying in as part of the theme.”
