Lower Sackville man dies in Highway 101 crash

Traffic on Highway 101 blocked for several hours following collision

Highway 101 near Windsor was blocked to traffic for several hours on Sept. 26 following a fatal collision between a tractor- trailer and another vehicle between exits 5 and 5A near Windsor.

Nova Scotia RCMP said in a press release issued Sept. 27 that the driver of the car, a 41- year- old male driver, has died.

Police said the driver of the transport truck was un- injured.

RCMP said the highway was closed from the time of the accident, around noon, until 8 p. m.

Vehicles, including transport trucks, had to turn around and use alternate routes due to the closure.

The crash occurred on a portion of the highway that was not divided. An RCMP traffic analyst was on the scene for several hours to conduct an investigat­ion into the crash.

Firefighte­rs and other emergency first responders attended the scene.

Fine, probation for producing marijuana

Matthew James Taylor, 42, of Lakeville, has been fined and sentenced to probation for unlawfully producing cannabis marijuana.

Taylor pleaded guilty Sept. 27 and was fined $1,300. Judge Claudine MacDonald also sentenced him to 18 months of reporting probation. The court imposed a 10-year firearm prohibitio­n and granted a forfeiture order for items seized in relation to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act charge.

Impaired driving, left scene of accident

Machaela Taylor- Spinney, 34, of Gaspereau, has been fined for operating a motor vehicle while her blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit and, having been involved in an accident, failing to stop her vehicle and give her name and address with intent to escape civil or criminal liability.

Taylor- Spinney pleaded guilty to the charges Sept. 27. Judge Claudine MacDonald fined her $ 1,300 on the impaired driving charge and imposed a one- year driving prohibitio­n. She was also fined

$520 for leaving the scene of an accident.

Taylor- Spinney committed the offences in New Minas June 8. The legal blood alcohol limit is 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. Taylor-Spinney’s blood alcohol readings were not available.

Impaired driving

Jesse Elias Smith, 26, of Kentville, has been fined for operating a motor vehicle while impaired by a drug.

Smith changed his plea to guilty Sept. 26. Judge Claudine MacDonald fined Smith $1,300 and imposed a one-year driving prohibitio­n.

Smith committed the offence in Windsor Dec. 5, 2014.
