A few more faces vying for Kentville council
Meet the newcomers running in the Oct. 15 election
In the Aug. 22 edition, the Valley Journal- Advertiser invited candidates who were running in Kentville to submit short profiles. Not all of the candidates had decided to run at that point, however.
Here are the final profiles of the men and women who are seeking a council seat in Kentville Oct. 15.
Name: John Andrew Position: Councillor
Previous experience: Operated a successful landscaping business for a number of years until attending Acadia University. Since then, he has worked as a youth worker and as a church pastor before becoming executive director of Open Arms.
Why you’re running: John Andrew is a leader and motivator who has originated a number of volunteer based, community supported social projects. John currently spearheads several projects that together involve more than 300 volunteers. John offers a fresh and hopeful vision for Kentville.
Name: Bill Denyar Position: Councillor
Previous experience: Entrepreneur, currently owner/ operator of Kentville- based Greenfields Indoor Air Solutions, president and CEO of Atlantic Provinces Chamber of Commerce for five years, past-president of Kentville Development Corporation and avid member of Kentville Rotary.
Why you’re running: I’ve thought about it several times in the past. I think I bring a different perspective, I have experience and background that others don’t have. I’ve lived in different parts of Canada and we chose to live in Kentville, it’s a great place to live.
Name: Paula Huntley Position: Councillor
Previous experience: Retail manager for 30+ years, small business owner, board member of a non-profit organiza- tion, fund raiser for community projects/programs
Why you’re running: I see helping to contribute to planning for our future to be my biggest focus, building on our youth with a mentoring program and investing in our business/ downtown core. One town, one goal, agreed solutions with resident involvement.
Name: Mark Pound Position: Councillor
Previous experience: A member of the fire department, served on the board and various committees of the Apple Blossom Festival over five years, understand how to seek funding and fill out forms.
Why you’re running: Because not a lot of young people are getting involved in town politics. It’s important to have representation connected with young families. I have two young kids and I know what young families need. I’m a firefighter, I just like to help.
