- 79, of Abbotsford, BC passed away on September 17, 2016. Born in Montreal, Quebec, son of Donald and Jeannie Ford. He leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Shirley (nee Wood) and sons Ronald (Marina) and Richard. Malcolm was interested in sports and music and enjoyed many other hobbies. At an early age he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Malcolm worked for Robin Hood Flour until 1975, then worked at Buckerfiel­d’s until his retirement. He will be missed by all. No service or flowers by request. Donations may be made to St. Paul’s Hospital, the local food bank or a charity of your choice.

- age 81, of Greenfield, Hants County, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2016, at home, surrounded by his family. Born on May 9, 1935, in Centre Rawdon, Hants County, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Orrin I. and Marion Marjorie (Mitchell) Johnson. Sam lived all his adult life in Greenfield, and was a member of St. Pauls’ Anglican Church. He was employed at Fundy Gypsum Company for over 41 years, having worked at all three plants, Hantsport, Windsor and Miller’s Creek, retiring in 2000. Sam is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Barbara Jean Robertson; son, Glenn, Garlands Crossing; grandson, Fraser Cochrane (Katie), Berwick; sisters, Dorothy (Victor) Page, Hantsport; Marion (Donald) Lane, Moshervill­e; Kathleen (Graham) Greenough, Woodville; brothers, Eric (Betty), Windsor;

Gary (Hazel), Penticton, BC; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predecease­d by son, Blaine; sisters, Ann Beckerleg and Janet Campbell; brothers, Atwood and Phillip. The family wish to express their sincere thanks to the Colchester-East Hants VON and Palliative Care Unit, and Tina Crowell for her help over the last few months. There was no visitation or reception by request. Funeral service was 2 p.m. Thursday, September 29, 2016, in St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Centre Rawdon. The Rev. - age 74, of Hillaton, Kings County, passed away peacefully but unexpected­ly at her home on September 25, 2016. Born on April 18, 1942 in Windsor, she was the daughter of the late Margurite and William Young. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmothe­r and great grandmothe­r. She was well known for her amazing baking skills and her love of sharing her creations with friends and family. She greatly enjoyed visits with her extended family and her door was always open to one and all. Marilyn is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Phillip; daughters, Wendy (Stephen) Taylor, Habitant; Wanda (Neil) McNeil, Kentville; son Michael (Betty) Pineo, Canard; grandchild­ren, Shannon (Matt) Phillips, Habitant; John (Reina) Taylor, Hillaton; Aron (Melissa) Taylor, Canning; Tara (Fraser) Caldwell, Habitant; Lindsey (Chris Moore) McNeil, Grande Prairie; Ryan (David Armitage) Pineo, Edmonton; Rick (Carla) Carter, Wedgeport; Mitchell (Emily) Carter, Kentville and Rebecca (Evan) Pineo, Look Off. She is also survived by her sister, Julie (Rod) Hunter of Falmouth as well as thirteen great-grandchild­ren and several nieces and nephews. Marilyn was predecease­d by her daughter, Kelly (Brian) Carter and son Robert Pineo, in infancy. In keeping with her wishes there was no visitation or funeral. There was a celebratio­n of life held on Friday, September 30, 2016 from 1-3 p.m. at the home of Shannon and Matt Phillips, 235 Aboiteau Rd, Canning, NS at which time friends and family were invited to share memories of Marilyn’s life and listen to Elvis Presley songs which she greatly loved. - BA, BEd, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2016, at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. He was born at home in Steam Mill to George and Eva (MacInnis) Turner. Reg attended Steam Mill School and Kings County Academy in Kentville. He went on to study at Acadia University, and, following in the footsteps of his mother, became a school teacher. Reg began his 40+ year career in education at Central Kings Rural High School in 1952, and was Principal at Aldershot Elementary School from 1961 to 1979. In 1980, he returned to classroom teaching at CKRHS, from where he retired in 1992. He remembered with fondness his years in the teaching profession. He encouraged children to set and achieve high expectatio­ns for themselves regardless of their circumstan­ces. Many of his former students credited him with getting them through school. Reg was very active in community life. In his younger years, he was an avid sportsman, spending many hours on baseball fields and in hockey arenas. He played with the Acadia Junior Hockey Club, Kentville Wildcats, and Annapolis Tigers, as well as on ball teams in Terrace Bay, ON, where he worked summers in university. Reg met the love of his life Eileen at the Kentville rink, and, following their marriage, continued to be involved in sport as a coach and President of the Kentville Minor Hockey Associatio­n. He was a Masonic Lodge member for over 25 years, served on the Board of Family and Children’s Services of Kings County, and was an Allied Youth Leader. Reg loved music and singing. He was a promoter of choirs at Aldershot School, President of the Kings County Music Festival, and belonged for many years to the Dukes of Kent Barbershop Ensemble. He was proud of his heritage, and never tired of walking the land where he grew up and the surroundin­g community. Reg’s most important achievemen­t was his family. He cherished his wife, and she and their three sons were always his highest priority. Reg is survived by his brother Ken Turner, Terrace Bay, ON; sister-in-law Katherine Turner, Aldershot; his wife of nearly 60 years, J. Eileen (MacKay); his children, George (Karen) Turner, New Minas; Michael “Mike” (Tracie) Turner, Steam Mill; and Geoffrey “Geof” (Sherri) Turner, Steam Mill; grandchild­ren Chelsea and Courtney Turner; Isaac and Noah Turner; Jenna Jackson and Rachel Turner; and many nieces and nephews. Reg was predecease­d by his parents; brothers, Don and Ralph, sister, Jean Wilson, brother-in-law James Wilson, and sister-in-law Bette Turner. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2016, at White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Murray Shaw officiated. Family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to the Diabetes Society. A private interment took place in Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Special thanks to doctor and friend Robert Gunn, who has cared for the entire family for over 30 years, and made countless visits to Reg and Eileen’s home, tending to their medical needs and lifting their spirits with his kindness and many stories. Thanks also to Dr. Mike Sinclair and to the staff of the Emergency Department at Valley Regional Hospital.
