reads, later indicating that the average monthly cost for housing someone who is homeless in a hospital bed is $10,900, while a rental supplement for the same time period is in the ballpark of $701 and social housing is about $199.92.

The Homeless No More plan revolves around a Housing First Framework for Youth that stresses the importance of understanding that the issue of youth homelessness must be addressed with solutions tailored to the “developmental, social and legal needs of young persons.”

“Immediate access to appropriate housing and supports is particularly crucial for young people and every effort should be made to divert them from long stays in emergency shelters,” the report says.

Sanche says that it is critical for communities to have housing options available that do not contain preconditions or clauses that actually act as barriers to safe housing.

“That’s probably one of the key most challenging, very critical pieces of this plan.”
