Bail hearing set for March 20

A Wolfville man facing a variety of charges – including sexual assault, unlawful confinemen­t, extortion and other counts – remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

Tracey Donald Dodds, 60, was present in Kentville provincial court in custody on March 13. The Crown was opposed to his release. A publicatio­n ban was ordered to protect the identity of the alleged victim and Dodds was remanded in custody until March 15 for a bail hearing.

The Crown remained opposed to Dodds’ release at the March 15 hearing. The wording of some of the charges was amended. Dodds consented to being remanded in custody until March 20 for another bail hearing. He has been ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim while on remand.

Dodds is charged with assault; verbally conveying a death threat, sexual assault, unlawful confinemen­t, inducing a woman by threats to submit to sexual acts, using threats of violence for the purpose of compelling the alleged victim to perform certain sexual acts and traffickin­g in hydromorph­one.

It’s alleged that Dodds committed the offences in Wolfville between Feb. 13 and March 7, 2017. The charges have not been proven in court.

The Kentville Police Service (KPS) are there when disturbanc­es take place. This past week officers, responded to five of these calls.

The first one concerned a very belligeren­t man at the library that police spoke to.

A call also came in from a coffee shop about a disturbanc­e caused by two individual­s. They were advised to settle down or they had to leave.

While on patrol, police observed a man causing a disturbanc­e. In a conversati­on, police learned he was upset with his mental health treatment. After a lengthy conversati­on, the man calmed down and headed for home.

A caller reported two females in the alley arguing. KPS attended and observed a verbal argument. After a brief conversati­on they each went on their way.

A man was reported jumping out in front of traffic on Cornwallis Street asking people for money and a caller was concerned this individual could get hurt, however, he was gone when KPS arrived.

A woman called to report someone smoking marijuana in her building. When KPS arrived, they were gone.

Someone reported that an unknown person had deposited a document that was not a cheque into her bank account for a large sum of money. Police are investigat­ing.

Two youth lit some paper on fire on the walking trail at Miner’s Marsh. Police spoke with the two individual­s and the fire was extinguish­ed before officers arrived. There was no damage and no charges laid.

A 911 caller reported a car versus pedestrian accident. A woman, crossing a crosswalk with her daughter in a stroller, was struck by a vehicle making a left turn. There were no injuries, however, EHS attended and checked them over. The incident is still under investigat­ion.

Community Services needed KPS as an escort to do a home view. Officers attended and everything was fine.

KPS were dispatched to a domestic dispute.

A man dropped off a wallet that he found in Cambridge. The owner was contacted and he stopped in to pick it up.

A mother contacted police to report her son needed assistance. KPS attended and transporte­d her son to Valley Regional Hospital.

A complaint came in about a suspicious vehicle in a car lot on Park Street. KPS made a patrol, searched the area, but nothing suspicious was found.

A suspicious man was reported after a man turned up on the doorstep advising he was there to upgrade a security system at a home. Police contacted the alarm company and were advised they did not have anyone upgrading systems.

A visitor to the station reported concern for an individual. KPS located and transporte­d him to Valley Regional Hospital.

A total of 14 males and two females were transporte­d to Inn from the Cold over a sixday period.

Police were dispatched to three false alarms downtown and they all turned out to be false.
