Five fresh Apple Blossom Festival events for 2017

Looking to make some new Apple Blossom memories?

The upcoming Annapolis Valley Apple Blossom Festival will include a mix of signature attraction­s that draw crowds year after year and new events that could become the traditions of tomorrow.

“This year, the Annapolis Valley Apple Blossom Festival remains rooted in some of its most cherished traditions while also embracing new and innovative ways to celebrate,” said Alxys Chamberlai­n, vice-president of the board overseeing the festival.

“With that in mind, we have created a line-up of events that are sure to please and delight Apple Blossom festival-goers of all ages. As the past meets the present, we’ll be sharing memories and making new ones as we mark the 85th anniversar­y of the Annapolis Valley Apple Blossom Festival.”

Test your technique at an apple blossom-themed Paint Nite fundraiser in support of the festival May 19. This event, open to guests aged 19 or older, will include an evening of instructed painting, Bulwark Craft Cider samples and a bar. Artist set up begins at 5:30 p.m., and Paint Nite runs 7-9 p.m. in the Berwick Lions Hall.

Celebrate the revival of the Apple Blossom Fun Run, a festival traditiona­l that’s making a comeback in Kingston this year. Registrati­on begins at 7 a.m., with 1K and 5K route options. The run starts at 8 a.m. and there will be a fitness fair from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Check out Centre Square between the Children’s Parade (10 a.m.) and Grand Street Parade (1 p.m.) in Kentville May 27 to partake in some family-friendly activities.

Visit the Berwick Fair Grounds between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. May 28 for a family-friendly event including antique cars, small farm animals and refreshmen­ts in the park.
