-

A Three Mile Plains man will serve a term of imprisonment in the community for committing an assault and has been sentenced on three other charges.

Jacob Taylor Scott Blanchard, 25, was brought to Windsor provincial court in custody on May 8 after he was charged with failing to comply with his recognizance by possessing alcohol. He pleaded guilty to this and to a charge of committing mischief by wilfully damaging the Road Runner Car Wash cash box, the value of which exceeded $5,000. Blanchard also changed his plea to guilty to an assault charge and to a charge of failing to comply with his undertaking. The matters were adjourned until May 12 for sentencing. Blanchard consented to being remanded in custody until then.

Judge Alan Tufts handed Blanchard a six-month conditional sentence order on the assault charge, which includes house arrest for the first three months, followed by daily curfew from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. The conditional sentence will be followed by nine months of probation.

Blanchard was also given a suspended sentence with 15 months of probation on the mischief charge and for failing to comply with his undertaking. The court granted a stand-alone restitution order for $9,017.87, payable to the victim of the mischief offence.

Blanchard was sentenced to one day in custody deemed served for failing to comply with his recognizance.

Blanchard committed the offences in Three Mile Plains on April 12 and Dec. 17, 2016, and on March 29, 2017; and in Ellershouse on April 6, 2017.

Charges of attempting to steal the Road Runner Car Wash cash box valued in excess of $5,000, and another count of assault and a charge of attempting to choke a woman by putting his hands around her throat with intent to enable himself to commit the indictable offence of assault, were withdrawn or dismissed on May 12.
