Windsor’s Green Team on a mission

-

good that you’ve likely seen Kelsie Lane and Alyssa Purvis.

Both are post-secondary students, both grew up in Windsor and both are members of the Windsor Business Enhancement Society’s Green Team.

Cleaning up weeds, sprucing up downtown streets and riding around in red tricycles, Lane and Purvis care about the town they grew up in and are happy to be making it look a little better this spring and summer.

“I’m an Environment and Sustainable Studies student, so being out here and doing this just kind of goes along with that. In my interview for the job, I was like ‘this is perfect for me; it would work so well’,” Lane said.

As for Purvis, seeing the changes they inspire is rewarding.

“The waterfront can be hard to tackle because there are a lot of weeds, and just little things that can be tedious. You feel like you’ve done it and then you go and the weeds are al- ready growing. It can be hard to keep up. You pick and chose your battles. The most important things to get after are making sure (Gerrish) Street looks good, going up one side then down another,” Purvis said.

The students are hoping people will alert them to litter and will take time to talk to them about beautifying the downtown core.
