The Avon View Avalanche’s boys’ hockey team competed in the Glen Murray Invitational High School Hockey Tournament in Bridgewater Nov. 17-19 and just like the Birthplace of Hockey High School Tournament on Nov. 2-5, the team lost in a semi-final game.

The Avalanche won their opening three games of the tournament.

In the opener, they set Central Kings back 3-1 on goals from Keighan Turnbull, Liam Parker and Ethan Salsman. They won two additional games Nov. 18. They registered a 3- 2 verdict over Yarmouth, which was a far cry from the Valley league game where Windsor crushed the Vikings 10-0 on Nov. 11.

Scoring for the Avalanche were Salsman, Dan Lord and Liev Ryan.

When they took on the host Parkview Panthers, a win was needed in order for the Avalanche to advance to the semi-finals Sunday morning. They downed the Panthers 2-1 on goals from Salsman and Hayden Burgess.

Then in the semi-final encounter Nov. 19 against the Barrington Barons, the Avalanche fell 5-2. It was their fourth game in three days. Turnbull and Salsman kept up their prolific scoring for the tournament by adding apiece in the loss.

Assistant Coach Glen Earley credited the team with a solid effort at the tournament, noting two other players who had an outstanding tournament were goaltender Joe MacDonald and Blake Rogers.

The Avalanche resumed Valley High School Hockey League action on Nov. 24 when they played the West Kings Wolverines in Kingston. They were back at home Nov. 25 for their first meeting of the year with the Northeast Kings Titans.

On Dec. 2, the Avalanche will entertain the Parkview Panthers in a 7 p.m. start at Hants Exhibition Arena. a goal
