New Brunswick RCMP launch homicide investigat­ion after dead body found in East Uniacke

The New Brunswick RCMP Major Crime Unit has launched a homicide investigat­ion after human remains found near Mount Uniacke were identified as a missing New Brunswick man.

Nova Scotia RCMP officers responded to a report of human remains found by a hunter in a wooded area off East Uniacke Road, near Mount Uniacke, on Dec. 2, 2017, shortly a.m.

An autopsy was conducted and the remains were positively identified as 57-year-old Daren Jones of Maquapit Lake, N.B., which is near Minto.

Jones was reported missing by his family in July 2017. His vehicle was found abandoned by RCMP near Stewiacke, N.S., just prior to him being reported missing.

Cpl. Jullie Rogers- Marsh, media relations officer with the New Brunswick RCMP, said the nature of Daren Jones presence in Nova Scotia is part of the in- after 9:30 vestigatio­n.

“The investigat­ion is ongoing, we are trying to determine what happened to Daren Jones and who is responsibl­e,” RogersMars­h said. “At this point no arrests have been made in relation to this file.”

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are asking for anyone with informatio­n that could assist with the investigat­ion to call the New Brunswick RCMP Major Crime Unit at 1-506-452-3491.
