Avalanche nearly nipped by Gators

Avon View girls hold on to spotless record

The Avon View Avalanche’s girls’ hockey team has had no difficulty winning their games to date in the 2017- 18 Valley High School Girls Hockey League season.

However, that spotless rec- ord was nearly blemished Dec. 10 when they took on the Central Kings Gators.

They took a 6- 0- 0 record into their game and managed to hold on to a 3- 2 victory.

The game showed a lack of discipline in the third period when it came to taking penalties.

The Avalanche were forced to play two people short at two different stages of the third period as Central Kings did everything possible to tie the game.

Avon View was up 2- 0 after the first period of play by goals from Savannah Hart and Maddie Singer.

In the second period, Singer fired a blistering shot that appeared to stun the Central Kings goalie after it hit her dir- ectly on the mask and then on her shoulder before rolling into the net.

Central Kings’ Jill Daniels added the Gators’ first goal.

There was only one minor penalty called in the first two period, which was against the Gators, but in the third, Avon View took four minor penalties in a span of nine minutes.

Central Kings moved to within a goal when Kathryn Spicer scored but that was all the Gators could manage.

Avon View wrapped up the 2017 portion with two games. They travelled to Canning Dec. 16 to put their 7- 0- 0 record on the line against the Northeast Kings Titans. They were also slated to play at home Dec. 18 for a bout against the West Kings Wolverines.
