Pending storm postpones Windsor’s hockey arena meeting

-

The March 13 winter storm caused the Town of Windsor to postpone its public information session on the proposed hockey arena.

The new meeting date was slated for March 19 at 7 p.m. at the Hants County War Memorial Community Centre, 78 Thomas St., in Windsor.

On March 13, Hants County residents were advised to prepare for winter storm conditions starting in the afternoon followed by heavy, wet snow, high winds, and possible blowing snow later in the day. Forecasters predicted the snow would change to rain overnight.

According to Windsor West Hants REMO, strong winds were predicted for the third storm of the month.

“Very strong east to northeasterly winds gusting to 90 kilometres an hour expected… into Wednesday morning, with gusts to 110 km/h possible along parts of the Atlantic coast tonight,” the REMO report stated.

The wind caused reduced visibility due to blowing snow and led to power outages.

“Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break. Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.”
