Devil’s Half Acre Motorcycle Rally back for a second year

- BY LAURA CHURCHILL DUKE

The second annual Devil’s Half Acre Motorcycle Rally is back again from June 16-17 in the Town of Kentville.

Drawing on the success and everything they learned from last year, event chairman Harlon Wood says the event will have more sponsors on board and they will offer some different activities that will hopefully draw a larger crowd.

Although the final schedule is not yet available, Wood says there will be stunt shows, music, food, bike dealers and vendors, a beard competition, a scavenger hunt, a bike Dyno, and even a burn-out competition. Camp Aldershot will be there with a large piece of equipment for people to see. There will also be a bike run up to Halls Harbour and across to the Look Off and back into town. There will be things for all ages and the event will be family friendly, says Wood.

The Devil’s Half Acre Motorcycle rally was Wood’s brainchild.

“I was thinking about just having a bunch of my buddies together for a little bike show in Centre Square one Saturday morning, then, the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to make it bigger and realized the Valley would be a great spot to hold a big event,” says Wood.

When figuring out what to name the event, Wood decided upon a historical tie. He says the name comes from the early 1900s when the Town of Kentville had the nickname “Devil’s Half Acre.” So that’s what he decided on.

Organizers are hoping for less than the 20mm of rain they had last year. Despite the weather, the vendors and spectators that came out were very pleased and gave a thumbs up to the committee members, says Wood.

“Events like this are good for everyone, not only the bikers but the business community in and around the Valley,” says Wood, adding that large crowds always spend money, which in turn helps the economy.

Wood says even if a person doesn’t have a motorcycle, they can still come and take part as there will be things for everyone to see and do, not just for motorcycle riders.
