The pitch was muddy and wet but that didn’t stop KES and Central Kings from squaring off April 26.

Both the boys and girls teams competed, with King’s-Edgehill emerging victorious in both bouts.

The boys won 44-0. The girls won 30-0.

“It was a sloppy game. I think the weather was pretty bad today. I think the girls did really well. I was really impressed with Central Kings. I thought they adapted better than we did to the weather,” said Rory Campbell, King’s-Edgehill School’s girls’ head rugby coach fol- lowing the match.

“The field condition was definitely a factor.”

Campbell said there’s considerable amount of interest in the sport from girls at the school — so much so they could run a junior varsity team this year. During the April 26 bout, several of the younger players were given the opportunity to play in the second half.

As for stand out players, Campbell said captain Kenzie Cecchetto, Sharon Estrada, who hails from Mexico and was named the player of the game, and Tea Racozzi all played well April 26.

“Those three girls didn’t mind mucking it up in the mud a little bit; they played well for sure,” he said.

Campbell said he’s looking forward to the rest of the season and

said several players have stepped up to really lead the team this year.

“Kenzie Cecchetto, Morgan Rogers, Tessa Firth and Amy Marchand-Dion — we have quite a leadership team in terms of our older kids,” said Campbell.

“Those four girls are pretty awesome young women. I’m lucky to work with them and I think the younger girls are lucky to have them as their leaders.”
