Kings County sisters battle for MJT honours at Ken-Wo

The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s NSGA (Nova Scotia Golf Association) Player of the Year series continued recently at the Ken- Wo Country Club, where Kings County sisters duked it out for top honours.

Meghan McLean, 19, of Port Williams, who is going into her sophomore year playing for the Central Connecticut Blue Devils, shot an outstanding two-day total of two- over- par, 142 ( 72, 70) in the MJT Collegiate Girls age 19-23 division.

“I played really well this weekend and I’ve been working hard on my game. It feels good to see my hard work paying off,” she said.

McLean was pushed hard by her younger sister Heather, who was two strokes back at 144 (71, 73), taking home her second trophy in the MJT Girls 15 – 18 division.

“My best hole of the tournament was definitely the 16th hole of round two, where I made eagle, thanks to an approach shot that ended up one- foot from the hole,” Heather McLean said.

Runner-up in the division was Haley Baker, 16, of Halifax, NS, at 85-82 (167).

Young golfers were competing for Hoselton trophies in seven different age categories, and for the chance to qualify for the International Players Championship presented by Miura Golf in Jasper, AB, as well as for MJT Team Canada to the JNJG International Junior Classic in Australia and to the Nordic Team Matches in Estonia.
