Football Canada’s U20 Team Canada took to the field in its quest to defend the gold medal at the 2018 IFAF World Jr Championships July 14 in Mexico City.

Two Axemen and Acadia head coach Jeff Cummins will be part of the team that will try to deliver another IFAF World Junior Championship gold medal.

Second-year Axemen receiver Glodin Mulali and defensive lineman Anderson Recker will represent Acadia on the World Jr. National Team.

From Moncton, N. B., Mulali played in five games in his freshman year last season and pulled in nine receptions for 150 yards.

Recker, from Halifax, suited up for all eight regular season games in his first season as an Axeman. The last IFAF World Jr. Championship was held in Harbin, China in 2016 and Cummins was part of the coaching staff at that time as well.

“This trip is a great football and cultural experience.

The opportunity to play with a great team and represent their country, families and current teams is second to none experience for Glodin and Anderson,” said Cummins.

The three departed Canada on July 10 and spent a few days adjusting to the surroundings and weather, with the first of three games scheduled against Sweden July 14, followed by the loser of Japan versus host Mexico on July 18. The final medal round is set for July 22.
