- BY MIKE BUTLER KINGSCOUNTYNEWS.CA

Just off the intoxicated heels of their first summer show of 2018, The Savannah Sipping Society, which delighted sold out crowds with its southern comfort and big laughs, CentreStage Theatre in Kentville is gearing up for another hilarious scorcher of a play called Suburban Standoff.

Suburban Standoff, by Canadian playwright Michael Grant, is sure to delight audiences with laughter and fun. CentreStage is beyond excited to introduce some new faces to their stage as three of the four cast members are making their CentreStage debut.

The story is as such: Ty is in need of some quick cash so he and his girlfriend, Candy, attempt their first home invasion. Unfortunately for them, they have picked the wrong house. Hank and Nancy, a retired couple, seem to know more about guns than Ty does. Who is really controlling this madcap evening and who will come out on top? It’s one big laugh after another with this stellar cast who’ve been working very hard to get this material in tip-top shape.

Suburban Standoff is directed by Michelle Herx, the founder of Quick As a Wink Theatre Society in Windsor. Michelle came to CentreStage Theatre a few years ago with Women of Lockerbie and later had a role in Calendar Girls. She’s ecstatic to present this play to an enthusiastic audience.

The cast, in order of appear- ance includes LeRoy Heffernan and newcomers, Lorraine Lazier, Chris Chaisson, and Jennah Larkin.

Audiences from the first few shows have been praising both the acting and directing, saying it’s great entertainment all around.

The featured artists this month during Suburban Standoff are Bill and Olee Tupper and they’re exhibiting their hooked rugs and wall hangings in the main lobby as you enter the theatre.

Suburban Standoff plays July 20, 21, 27, and 28 with a matinee on July 22. Front of House opens at 6:45 p.m. for the evening performances and 1:15 p.m. for the matinee. Tickets cost $15 for adults; $12 for seniors and students; and $5 for children age 12 years and under. CentreStage takes cash or cheques only.
