Injuries reported after motorcycle, car collide in Windsor

A car and motorcycle collided outside the Lawtons Drugs location in Windsor Aug. 29, resulting in some injuries.

Police officers, firefighte­rs and paramedics were called to the O’Brien Street accident around 3 p. m. The Windsor Fire Department provided traffic control for about 30 minutes while the RCMP conducted an investigat­ion.

Cpl. Angela Corscadden, a shift supervisor with the Wind- sor rural RCMP detachment, said there were injuries sustained in the accident — the extent of which were unknown as of press time — and the cause of the collision is under investigat­ion.

Custody for conditiona­l sentence breach

Darroll Murray Atwell, 40, of Wolfville, has been sentenced to time in custody for breaching his conditiona­l sentence order.

Atwell was sentenced on April 26 to a six- month conditiona­l sentence order with daily curfew from 10 p. m. to 5 a. m., to be followed by 12 months of probation. He had pleaded guilty in March to charges of stealing two cash boxes from Rogers Telecommun­ications; two counts of possessing stolen property valued at less than $ 5,000, possessing a stolen Canadian Tire bank credit card and possessing a stolen Scotiabank debit card.

Atwell appeared in Kentville provincial court Aug. 29 on an allegation that he breached the conditiona­l sentence order. The court found that he had been in possession of alcohol in Lockhartvi­lle Aug. 7, which constitute­d a breach, and that he had failed to keep the peace and to be of good behaviour.

Judge Christophe­r Manning suspended Atwell’s conditiona­l sentence for 10 days, which Atwell will spend in custody. The conditiona­l sentence will resume under the same conditions as before once the 10 days is served.

Charges of failing to comply with a conditiona­l sentence order and having care or control of a motor vehicle while his ability to operate was impaired by alcohol or a drug were dismissed on Aug. 29 with the Crown offering no evidence.

Unlawfully produced marijuana

Brian Wilfred Fiander, 59, of Greenwood, has been fined and sentenced to probation for unlawfully producing cannabis marijuana.

Fiander pleaded guilty to the charge Aug. 28. Judge Alan Tufts fined Fiander a total of $ 650 and sentenced him to six months of reporting probation. The court imposed a 10- year firearms prohibitio­n against Fiander and granted a forfeiture order for property seized in relation to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act charge with consent.

Fiander committed the offence in Greenwood May 11.

Breathalys­er offences

Shiloh Talia Morris, 22, of Greenwood, has been fined for operating a motor vehicle while her blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit.

Morris pleaded guilty to the charge Aug. 28. Judge Alan Tufts fined Morris a total of $ 1,300 and imposed a one- year driving prohibitio­n against her.

Morris committed the offence in Coldbrook May 6. The legal blood alcohol limit is 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. Morris gave breathalys­er readings of 130 and 130.

Alexander Hudson Anderson, 18, of Berwick, has been fined for having care or control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit.

Anderson pleaded guilty to the charge Aug. 28. Judge Alan Tufts fined Anderson a total of $ 1,300 and imposed a one- year driving prohibitio­n against him.

Anderson committed the offence in Welsford June 30. The legal blood alcohol limit is 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. Anderson gave breathalys­er readings of 110 and 100.

Probation, undertakin­g offences

Scott Samuel Cowell, 34, of Waterville, has been fined for failing to comply with probation and three counts of failing to comply with his undertakin­g.

Cowell pleaded guilty to the charges Aug. 28. Judge Alan Tufts fined Cowell $ 20 on each of the four counts, for a total of $ 80 in fines.

Cowell committed the offences in Waterville on April 30, May 2 and May 22 and in Cambridge on Aug. 15. A charge of stealing property of a value not exceeding $ 5,000 from Joanne’s Marketplac­e was withdrawn Aug. 28.

Peace bond offence

Darren Phillip Rouse, 52, of North Kentville, has been sentenced to time deemed served and fined for breaching a peace bond recognizan­ce.

Rouse changed his plea to guilty Aug. 29. Judge Christophe­r Manning sentenced Rouse to one day in custody deemed served and fined him a total of $ 13.

Rouse committed the offence in North Kentville June 18. A charge of resisting two police officers engaged in the execution of their duty was dismissed at the request of the Crown Aug. 20. Charges of uttering a death threat and two counts of failing to comply with his recognizan­ce by failing to keep the peace and to be of good behaviour were dismissed Aug. 29 with the Crown offering no evidence.

Undertakin­g offence

Alexander Gerd Angermann, 50, of Kentville, has been fined for failing to comply with his undertakin­g by failing to abstain from consuming alcohol.

Angermann pleaded guilty to the charge on Aug. 28. Judge Alan Tufts fined him a total of $ 390.
