Candice Bowman was having a mid-afternoon nap, when she got a loud awakening.

A car smashed into the side of her house on Sept. 24 at approximately 2:40 p.m., causing extensive damage inside.

“It was terrifying, I thought it was a bomb,” Bowman said. “Or something exploded, it was just chaos.”

She saw the car in her yard and ran over to the vehicle to see if they were OK.

“I jumped over the mess to come outside and tended to her and her granddaughter, asked if they were OK,” she said. “She said, ‘I need an ambulance, my chest hurts.’”

She ran back upstairs to grab her phone and dialed 911.

“Everything happened really fast, everyone got here really quickly,” she added.

She said her kitchen took the brunt of the damage, with her counters and appliances “all over the place.”

She’s already in discussions with her insurance provider.

Paul Maynard, deputy chief of the Hantsport Fire Department, said that witnesses informed him that the car left the road near the intersection of Main Street and Willow Street and crashed into the house.

“One elderly lady was taken to hospital by EHS with non-lifethreatening injuries,” Maynard said. “There’s significant damage to the house.”

The younger female passenger was assessed by EHS, but was not transported to hospital.

Power and water were isolated from the home to prevent further damage, Maynard said.

Const. Heather Graves with the RCMP said the incident is not under investigation and no charges are pending.
