Hantsport marks Valley Ghost Walks’ newest haunt

Good day ladies and gentlemen, my name is Jerome the Grave Keeper and for many years I’ve been looking after the cemeteries of many Annapolis Valley communities.
As a result, I’ve come to know many incredible historical characters who have made substantial contributions to this incredible Valley.
In my humble opinion, we live in the most historically-rich, amazing area in all of North America.
This is the eleventh year we’ve been conducting family-friendly, historical productions via Valley Ghost Walks, and I’m digging that this has been our best season yet.
In addition to haunting our regular places in Wolfville, Kentville, Halls Harbour, Windsor, and the Grand Pré Winery, we’ve also managed to create two new shows to get haunted, this year — one at the Wolfville Anglican Church as part of their 200th anniversary celebrations, and the other in Hantsport.
A proud shipbuilding history in Hantsport led to the creation of 250 master mariners, including Captain John Porter, who sailed the impressive barques built by J.B. North. He’ll tell you all about it alongside other iconic Hantsport ghosts including Ann Churchill, Silas Rand, Francis da Silva, Hattie Chittick, Ben Jackson — and others.
As soon as we secured funding help last year through the Hantsport Memorial Community Centre to script-write and research, the first person we contacted was Heather Davidson — no stranger to telling Hantsport’s history at the Riverbank Cemetery.
With her notes and blessings, we got to work putting together the Hantsport Ghost Walk. It has taken a while, but I’m very happy to say that on Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m., it will come to life with a dress rehearsal complete with scripts and limited tickets.
Everything should be in place for our second show on Oct. 29, also at 7:30 p.m. We’ll start both shows at the Riverbank Cemetery and will end at the Churchill House. In case of bad weather, the entire show will be indoors.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for students and seniors 65 and above, and are available via Ticketpro.ca and at all of their ticket locations. Cash-only tickets are available before the show, space permitting.
