‘The roof is burnt off’
Coldbrook family displaced following morning fire
An early morning fire has rendered a single-family home in Coldbrook uninhabitable.
Fire chief Brian Desloges said the Kentville Volunteer Fire Department received a report of a structure fire in the 2,000 block of Langille Drive in Coldbrook shortly after 5 a.m. Nov. 30.
“When we arrived there was heavy, heavy smoke showing from the structure and within a few seconds the roof ignited and it’s burnt the roof right off,” said Desloges
He said the fire originated in the lower level of the home, likely as a result of a cause that is electrical in nature.
“The owners were home. He was in the process of getting ready to go to work and he smelled smoke and went downstairs and saw the fire, called 911 and evacuated the building.”
There were no injuries as a result of the blaze, which left the split-level home in a state of disrepair.
“The roof is burnt off, the ceilings have collapsed in on the first floor and there’s heavy smoke and water damage in the lower level,” said Desloges.
“We had to extinguish the fire in the attic space first and then we had to get in through the building to extinguish the remaining fire on the inside.”
Departments from Waterville and New Minas were dispatched following the initial page through the automatic aid protocol in place, and Wolfville and Port Williams were later called in to assist with the labourintensive overhaul efforts, said Desloges.
Firefighters were on scene at the subdivision property for about six hours.
