The annual Stuff-a-Cruiser food drive is rolling into Windsor Dec. 7 with the goal of bringing in some much-needed groceries for families this winter.

The Windsor District RCMP and Victim Services volunteers will be at the Empire Lane Sobeys location from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The RCMP’s safety bear will be in attendance and giving handouts to children.

Staff Sgt. Cory Bushell said this event serves as a way for the RCMP to give back to the communities they serve.

“As members of the RCMP, we do take pride in the communities that we serve and from time to time, we seek the opportunity to get engaged in a positive way in our communities, be that serving on boards or participating in community events, or in this case, helping to participate in a food drive,” he said. “It’s all positive. It’s great for our members, it’s great for the community and it helps to strengthen the bonds and relationships we have with the people of Hants County.”

Although they don’t have a goal in mind, Bushell hopes the community will once again rally to help those in need.

“We hope to stuff the cruiser as many times as possible,” said Bushell. “Each time we stuff the cruiser, we take a trip to the food bank, unload, and come back and hope to fill it up again. It’s based on the generosity of the people from Hants County.”

Bushell said Matthew 25 Windsor and District Food Bank employees will also be on site accepting cash donations for the food bank.

Among the items food bank organizers told the RCMP they’re hoping to receive during the fundraiser are: cranberries, juice, canned vegetables, Kraft Dinner, soup, stove top dressing, peanut butter, canned fruit, cereal, pasta and personal hygiene products like shampoo.

“We encourage everyone to come out and be a part of this very important event at this very important time of year,” said Bushell.
