CONDITIONAL SENTENCE TERMINATED
Anthony Scott Carpenter, 56, of Kentville, has had his conditional sentence terminated and will spend the remaining time in custody.
Carpenter was handed a total six-month conditional sentence on July 17, 2019, after pleading guilty to charges of assault, failing to comply with his recognizance and uttering a threat via text message to damage an individual’s property. The conditional sentence included house arrest for the first four months, followed by daily curfew for the remaining two months. Carpenter was also sentenced to 12 months of probation.
Carpenter was in Kentville provincial court in custody on Jan. 13 on an allegation that he breached conditions. Carpenter admitted the breach. Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek terminated his conditional sentence and ordered him to spend the remaining eight days in custody.
Carpenter breached his conditions in Kentville on Jan. 11 by failing to keep the peace and to be of good behaviour and by failing to abstain from the possession and consumption of alcohol.
Carpenter was arrested by the Kentville Police and charged with assault on Jan. 11. He pleaded not guilty to the charge on Jan. 13. The matter has been adjourned to July 23 for trial.
UTTERED THREAT, DAMAGED PROPERTY
Robert Shawn Tremere, 58, of Kingston, has been handed a suspended sentence with probation for uttering a threat to cause bodily harm and has been fined for willfully damaging an individual’s car window to a value not exceeding $5,000.
Tremere pleaded guilty to the two charges on Nov. 19, 2019. The matters were adjourned to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.
On Jan. 14, Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Tremere a suspended sentence with 12 months of reporting probation for uttering a threat. The court imposed a three-year firearm prohibition against him. Tremere was fined $500 for willfully damaging property.
Tremere committed the offences in Kingston on Aug. 27, 2019. A charge of uttering a death threat was withdrawn on Jan. 14.
SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR ASSAULT
Bernadette Stephenson, 60, of Canning, has been handed a suspended sentence with probation for committing an assault.
Stephenson pleaded guilty to the charge on Nov. 5, 2019, and the matter was adjourned to Jan. 15 to allow time for a presentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.
Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Stephenson a suspended sentence with 12 months of reporting probation.
Stephenson committed the offence in Canning on July 1, 2019.
STOLE FROM PHARMACY
Erin Berry, 41, of Forrest Hill, has been handed a suspended sentence with probation for three counts of stealing merchandise of a value not exceeding $5,000 from Cochrane’s Pharmasave.
Berry pleaded guilty to the charges on Nov. 5, 2019, and the matters were adjourned to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.
On Jan. 15, Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Berry a suspended sentence with 12 months of reporting probation on each of the three charges, to be served concurrently. Berry was also ordered to complete 40 hours of community service work.
Berry committed the offences in Wolfville on June 10, 11 and 12, 2018.
PROBATION OFFENCE
Morgan Oliver Keddy, 23, of Wilmot, has been fined for failing to comply with probation by failing to complete 10 hours of community service work.
Keddy changed his plea to guilty on Jan. 15. Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek fined Keddy $200.
Keddy committed the offence in Kentville between Nov. 17, 2017, and May 13, 2018.
