Where There’s Smoke
Not so Long ago, “got a light?” was the mating call of the nightlife scene, so when the province banned smoking in bars in 2000, the lonely and the black-lunged found themselves at a loss. Smoking booths (like this one, pictured at the now-defunct Fred’s Uptown Tavern in our April 2001 issue) were avaliant attempt to keep those nicotine-fuelled flirtations inside, but the quarantine vibe wasn’t sexy enough (hard to believe, we know) to last.
