AUTO SHOWS REALLY WORK
Auto shows are more than just a flashy display of the latest makes, models and technology in the ever-evolving industry — they’re a great place to help buyers pick their next vehicle.
A new survey says 57 per cent of people who attend auto shows are in the market to buy a car or truck in the next 12 months. About half (51 per cent) who bought a vehicle said their decision was influenced by one of these events, according to The Power of Auto Shows report.
The survey was commissioned by Auto Shows of North America (ASNA), which is a group of 65 auto shows from around the United States and Canada, including the Vancouver International Auto Show held each year in late March.
ASNA chairman Lou Vitantonio says the results show “unassailable evidence” of the link between auto shows and actual vehicle sales in various markets.
He says auto shows lure not only car lovers, but also active consumers.
“Auto shows captivate people,” he said. “They educate, entertain and amaze. Consumers know they can see a wide variety of new vehicle technologies, including those that will make them safer on the road, be kinder to the environment and provide them with a more entertaining experience.”
The survey also shows 46 per cent of auto show attendees added or subtracted brands from their purchase decision based on a visit to one of these events. They spread the word to other buyers as well, the study finds. It says one in four buyers gave vehicle advice to six or more people who didn’t go to the show.
Manufacturers are also seeing an uptick in interest on their websites from consumers who attend auto shows. The study says 72 per cent of auto show attendees plan to visit a manufacturer’s website to learn more about their makes and models. Fifty-three per cent planned to head to a dealer showroom.
But the shows aren’t just about buying.
Survey results indicate twothirds of consumers go to auto shows because they want to see new vehicles and because the event is fun and entertaining. As well, 44 per cent attend to learn about new vehicle technology.
Whether you’re in the market for a new vehicle in the near future or looking for an exciting event to attend, the Vancouver International Auto Show is a don’t-miss event. The team is already working on next year’s show, March 23-28 at the Vancouver Convention Centre.
