Vancouver man starts anti-Trump campaign

U.S. candidate is ‘unstable’

A Vancouver man has started a volunteer group of Canadians to campaign against U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Glyn Lewis, 32, co-founder of Canadians Rallying Against Trump, says the American businessman poses a serious threat to the world and they are asking Canadians to get involved in campaigning for Hillary Clinton.

“Someone as unstable as Donald Trump should not have 1,500 active nuclear missiles at his fingertips. Someone who thinks global warming is a hoax should not be negotiating climate change agreements,” he said.

During Monday’s presidential debate in the U.S., Trump denied that he ever said global warming was a hoax made up by the Chinese, yet he tweeted in 2012 that the concept of global warming “was created by and for the Chinese in order to make US manufacturing non-competitive.” He later said he was joking.

Lewis, who watched the debate, said it was one of many reasons why Trump should not be in a position of power.

“Trump is a pathological liar. He is unhinged and to give a person like that power is frightening,” he said.

Lewis, who will head down to Philadelphia on Oct. 19 to campaign, said so far they have about 10 volunteers, who have been recruited on the group’s Facebook page. Some of them will also travel to key battleground states to help reach out to voters.

He said other volunteers who can’t make the trip to the U.S. will use online tools to make phone calls to Americans to encourage them to vote. He is hoping more Canadians will join their efforts and says they will provide support to anyone who signs up to volunteer through the Facebook page.

This is the second time Lewis, an environmentalist, has travelled to the U.S. to campaign in an American election. He was a field organizer helping campaign for Barack Obama in 2008.

Lewis, who initially was campaigning for Bernie Sanders before getting behind Clinton in an effort to stop Trump, said he became interested in helping out with American elections after becoming infuriated with the war in Iraq.
