WALKING IN HEELS WITH CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN

-

If there’s one thing Christian Louboutin knows a lot about, it’s high heels.

The French accessories designer has seen countless women step out in his creations — many of them with four to six-inch heels — and he says there’s one thing women need to successfully strut in their stilettos: Confidence.

“It’s so mental to fight to be able to walk in heels. Most teenagers when they are 16, 17 or 18 and they have their first pair of high heels they think, ‘Oh my God, I can’t walk!’ and then five minutes later, they walk totally gracefully,” he says. “There is something of your self-confidence which definitely plays with the fact of whether you can walk in heels or not.”

So, basically, believe you can walk in those heels — and you will.

“If you have a bit of selfesteem, it’s very easy,” Louboutin says. “I’m not talking skyscraper heels of seven inches, but otherwise, if you let your body carry everything for you, I’ve never seen anyone with a problem.”

So, would the soft-spoken Frenchman ever tell someone they can’t walk in his shoes?

“It’s difficult because you cannot say ‘you’re such a bad walker in those shoes. Just forget about it’,” he says.

“But if I have the feeling that people would do that for me, I would say, look, that is not the correct shoe for you.”
