Reggae artist Ziggy Marley is among the next crop of musicians announced for the 2017 TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival. Marley appears at the Vogue Theatre on June 26 as part of the festival’s concerts at the popular local theatre. Marley last played the venue in October of last year with his band, the Melody Makers.

Also announced for the Vogue series is Aussie guitarist Tommy Emmanuel with Jenn Bojm and Khingfisher (June 25). The Grammy-nominated master of acoustic guitar is one of five musicians designated with the CGP (Certified Guitar Player) from the legendary Chet Atkins. Emmanuel’s A Music Gone Public Special on PBS first aired on Dec. 12, 2016, and has since become a favourite broadcast around donor drives.

The Pyatt Hall has hosted a number of excellent jazz and newmusic performances since opening and this year marks the inaugural Pyatt Hall Series featuring some legendary heavy hitters, as well as a rising pop/jazz vocalist in the Norah Jones vein, and more.

Blue Note rising star Kandace Springs is making waves with her covers of songs by Sam Smith, interpretations of material by Jones writer Jesse Harris and her own originals (June 25); piano ace Cyrus Chestnut and his trio are certain to soar (June 27), while the Emmet Cohen Trio features bass legend Ron Carter (June 29). A major score is Grammy Awardwinning bassist Buster Williams and Something More, who are certain to swing and groove with all the ferocity the bassist showed in his days with Herbie Hancock and others (June 30). The tenor saxophonist Scott Hamilton Trio, with pianist Rosanno Sportiello and bassist J.J. Shakur, rounds out the series (July 2).

Best of all, the Pyatt Hall Series features two shows per night, doubling your chances of catching these artists while fitting in other gigs those evenings.

Tickets are now on sale for the 32nd annual event at coastaljazz. ticketfly.com or 1-888-732-1682.
