Clark’s insult poor choice of news

Re: Premier Clark dismisses Horgan as a leader who lacks a spine, March 17

Couldn’t you do any better, for your front-page headline on Friday, than to feature a vacuous and mean-spirited comment from the premier about a political opponent?

She may want to appeal to voters who respond to personal drama rather than policy, but The Vancouver Sun should not promote it. This is not the way to inform voters about critical issues leading up to a provincial election.

Our complaint is not partisan: We’d react similarly if any party’s leader stooped to personal insults and attempts to defame. This trend is a threat to democracy, undermining as it does citizens’ respect for governance and the people who stand for public office.
