Burnaby school trustee Katrina Chen, of the NDP, overcame former Global TV anchor Steve Darling, despite his high profile for the Liberals.
7 Jagrup Brar
Surrey-Fleetwood
The NDP’s Jagrup Brar is a semi-new face in Victoria. After Brar lost his Surrey seat by 200 votes in 2013, he fought back to beat Peter Fassbender, a Liberal cabinet minister.
3 George Chow
Vancouver Fraserview
The NDP’s George Chow beat a major candidate for the B.C. Liberals, Attorney General Suzanne Anton, who narrowly won the riding earlier. Chow is a former two-time Vision Vancouver councillor.
8 Adam Olson
Saanich North and the Islands Adam Olson took this riding for the Greens, defeating NDP incumbent Gary Holman. He is a former Central Saanich councillor and interim leader of the B.C. Green party.

Jas Johal was a journalist at Global TV before he quit to do communications work for B.C.’s LNG Alliance. The Liberal candidate defeated NDP candidate Aman Singh, a civil rights lawyer.
9 Bowinn Ma
North Vancouver-Lonsdale Winning NDP candidate Bowinn Ma is a project manager at Vancouver International Airport, knocking off cabinet minister Naomi Yamamoto. Ma was the fourth female president of UBC’s Engineering Undergraduate Society.
5 Garry Begg
Surrey-Guildford
The NDP’s Garry Begg, an RCMP officer, defeated high-profile Surrey Liberal minister Amrik Virk, who had been demoted after a compensation scandal in 2014.

Delta North
This former Olympian and NDP organizer took the seat away from the Liberals’ Scott Hamilton.
