This is one suspect who isn’t “built Ford tough.”

A Revelstoke man with a liking for Ford trucks now faces multiple charges after allegedly stealing several of the vehicles in a rampage.

On Sunday morning, Revelstoke RCMP were called by a passerby who had pulled over to help a man get his Ford F150 out of a sandy area. The man, however, was “verbally and physically aggressive and claimed to be armed with a gun.”

Police were able to track down the driver in Revelstoke, but he refused twice to stop for police and drove off.

At the time, police had also received reports of two stolen vehicles, including a Ford F250 pickup truck stolen the same morning, and a Ford F350 pickup truck; those thefts were followed by reports of two vehicle fires. Investigators determined the burning vehicles included the same Ford F150 initially reported by the passerby, as well as a stolen Kelowna vehicle, and the Ford F250 stolen the same morning.

Another report was also called into police about the failed theft of a travel trailer involving a Ford F350, followed by a report that a man matching the suspect’s description had stolen ammunition from a local fishing and hunting store.

A canine unit and a copter were called in to assist and were able to locate the suspect in the Ford F350 parked on a service road near Highway 1, about 15 kilometres west of Revelstoke. Police then set up a roadblock to prevent the suspect from re-entering Highway 1, but he continued and sped through.

The police copter was able to keep the suspect in sight and reported that the suspect had exited the truck and started running along the highway. Police were finally able to stop the suspect when he approached a driver in a white SUV, and was arrested.

Kelly Andrew Maclean is charged with 14 offences, including four counts of possession of stolen property, two counts of arson, two counts of theft, one count of dangerous driving, three counts of fleeing from police, and two counts of driving while disqualified.

Maclean remains in custody and will appear in court on June 6.

Police are thanking the public for their assistance in reporting the various incidents leading up to the arrest, and are asking anyone who witnessed the events to contact investigators at 250-837-5255. In particular, police are hoping to speak with the driver of the white SUV that was approached by the suspect.
