PROJECT OF THE WEEK: FOSTER MARTIN

AN ENTIRELY NEW RESIDENTIAL EXPERIENCE IN WHITE ROCK

- ROBIN BRUNET Postmedia Content Works

Located just blocks from the beaches of Semiahmoo Bay with panoramic views of nearby Blaine, Wash. and Vancouver Island on the horizon, Foster Martin by Landmark Premiere Properties Ltd. is a unique masterplanned urban community in White Rock.

In fact, Foster Martin provides an entirely new residential experience to the popular seaside city, comprised of three elegant towers and 334 condos (with views from every balcony of the southern sunsets) and the White Rock Commons public plaza, which is intended as an anchor for an urban centre currently planned by the city.

The towers alone are visually striking, designed by IBI Group with a curving, wavy curtainwall and spine reminiscent of the undulations of the ocean, and staggered like waves lapping the shore.

THE ARCHITECTURE

Appropriately, IBI’s moniker is “Defining the cities of tomorrow,” and as such it has been instrumental in creating residences that live up to the overused descriptive of being iconic: arguably its most famous is Three Harbour Green, the final component of Vancouver’s Coal Harbour Community.

IBI brings the same level of sophistication to Foster Martin, and the balance between striking architecture, commerce and retail will be complemented by beautiful green spaces and public gathering places.

“The team at Landmark expressed their desire to create a project that was wellness-inspired,” said Martin Brückner, director of IBI Group. “While four towers was once contemplated, it was decided that a green space in place of the fourth tower would allow for greater connectivity to the town centre and create a space where people within the community could gather, relax, and enjoy.”

IBI’s relationship with Landmark was crucial to the project’s success. “From the time of our earliest discussions, IBI embraced Landmark’s vision of developing a unique, community-oriented project – one that would utilize the full potential of an otherwise vacant site and thus contribute toward the vitalization of this emerging neighbourhood,” said Brückner.

Another key to success was input from locals. “Throughout the design process we held open houses to gain feedback from the community,” said Brückner. “We embraced this feedback and were delighted to see the community positively respond to the introduction of this development.”

NEIGHBOURHOOD

For decades, White Rock has been a lure for vacationers, beach enthusiasts, filmmakers – and of course residents seeking a special lifestyle while retaining easy accessibility to Vancouver.

Because of White Rock’s distance from the Coast Mountains, it sees less fog, fewer rainy days, shorter snowfalls – and is often two to three degrees warmer than neighbourhoods to the north.

The favourable climate means that events such as Tour de White Rock and the Spirit of the Sea Festival are always well-attended, and that traffic jams come in the form of lineups for fish ’n chips and gelato by the pier.

Foster Martin is being developed as the City of White Rock evolves its Urban Design Plan to create a town centre characterized by mixed commercial/residential growth and a healthy business environment. The new town centre will embody a move from car-oriented asphalt to people-oriented green systems and spaces improve and enhance pedestrian connectivity, and encourage a mix of land uses to attract residents of different ages, income levels and lifestyle.

In short, while Foster Martin residents are just steps from the sea as well as all the benefits of this thriving community, they can also look forward to a neighbourhood that will be even more dynamic, vital and people-friendly.

CONDOS

Foster Martin owners have considerable latitude with design options in making their condominium a home, beginning with the choice of Seaside Traditional or Seaside Modern, with each choice available in lighter or darker options.

Spacious interiors and thoughtful floor plans created by Studio Finlay define each home, which also come with oversized decks and gas hookups, generous windows to maximize sunlight, engineered hardwood flooring augmented with stone and tile, and soaring nine-foot ceilings.
