$6.5M Kelowna mansion to hit the auction block

- STEPHANIE IP sip@postmedia.com

A $6.5-million luxury mansion in southeast Kelowna is up for auction, and guess what? There’s no minimum bid.

The five-and-a-half-hectare estate, located 15 minutes from the city and within view of Okanagan Lake, features a 9,000-square-foot main home and a 1,000-squarefoot guest quarters, with a total of five bedrooms, five full bathrooms and one half-bath.

The property has a private gated entry and driveway, a three-car garage, traditional colonial architecture and modern styling, chandeliers, a two-storey great room with custom gas fireplace, and oversized windows.

Foodies can rejoice in the chef ’s kitchen equipped with a Thermador four-burner gas stove, double ovens, a commercial-grade refrigerator, dishwasher, compactor, two islands, custom cabinetry, granite counters, under-cabinet lighting, a breakfast nook with a view, and a walk-in pantry.

A family room features custom gas fireplace and custom-built media space, and the den comes with a fully equipped wet bar, billiards table, gas fireplace and a balcony overlooking a pool.

A private master suite features a fireplace, sitting area, oversized walk-in closet, a master bathroom with heated marble floors, his-and-hers vanities, a jetted tub and steam shower. Three guest bedrooms include either private decks, adjoining bathrooms or pool access. A Tuscan-style wine cellar and bonus room are located on the lower floors.

You can also saunter outside to an apple orchard operated under lease on the property, or cancel it at the end of 2017 — although it’s worth noting the orchards bring in gross returns of between $10,000 to $25,000 per year. If apples really aren’t your thing, the orchards could be removed to make way for tennis courts, horse paddocks or riding facilities, if you prefer.

Auctioning for the home will begin with no minimum bid, as the owner — who hopes to downsize and travel more — is confident the auction’s sale price will meet the property’s value. Minimum bids are often put in place when an owner wants to ensure a minimum price.

The home was last on offer for $6.5 million, although property assessment records list the actual value of the property at $3.2 million.

Interested parties will need to register with Platinum Luxury Auctions before the auction on Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. Those hoping to preview the property can do so by appointment before the auction date by calling 1-800-419-1629.
