Born in Fontelonga passed away peacefully on September 30, 2017 in Richmond at the age of 85. Predecease­d by his eldest son, Joa˜o Jose´. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Julia, sons Carlos (Ada), Victor (Sunny) and John Paul (Jennifer), grandsons Matthew and Lucas, granddaugh­ters Lia and Sara, great-grandson Noah; and many extended family members and friends. Tony, as he was affectiona­tely known, arrived in Canada in 1955 with many other Portuguese immigrants who laid the foundation for the arrival of more relatives and friends with the ambition of achieving a better quality of life on North American shores. He met Julia in Vancouver in 1957 and they married shortly thereafter; raising four sons who provided Tony with four loving grandchild­ren, and a great-grandson, whom he cherished dearly. While Tony was primarily a family man, he had a successful career as a masonry contractor and thoroughly enjoyed retirement on his blueberry and poultry farm in Richmond. He continued to cultivate his passions for winemaking, gardening and travel while enjoying a loving marriage of 59 years to Julia, right up until the day of his passing. Prayers will be said at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 6 by Fr. Antonio at Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Vancouver on 1423 East 13th Ave. The funeral mass will immediatel­y follow at 10:30 a.m. and burial will be in Vancouver at Mountain View Cemetery off East 43rd Ave. and Prince Edward St. All are welcome to attend.
