A man is recovering in hospital following a stabbing at a house party in Abbotsford late Saturday.

Just before midnight, Abbotsford police were called to a home in the 2200-block Clearbrook Road where an assault involving a weapon had been reported at a party. Officers arrived to find a 22-year-old man suffering from stab wounds.

“There was an attempt by the adult homeowner to shut the party down right around midnight and it’s around that time that this altercation breaks out,” said Const. Ian MacDonald, who said there were just over a dozen guests at

the birthday party ranging in age from mid-teens to mid-30s.

The suspect fled before police arrived, but was identified by other party guests as a 30-year-old man.

The victim was found bleeding from three serious stab wounds and was treated by first responders at the scene before being taken to hospital. He remains in hospital and is expected to survive. Police haven’t yet been able to interview the victim.

The victim and the suspect are known to each other; both were guests at the party.

“We’re hopeful that we’ll either have the suspect arrested or that due to some of the media and social-media coverage he will choose to turn himself in at this point,” said MacDonald.

As of Monday, no arrests had been made.

The Abbotsford Police Department’s Major Crime investigators have now taken over the file. Anyone with information about the incident should contact police at 604-859-5225 or via text at 222973 (abbypd). Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
