A Prince George cat named Notorious B.I.G. has survived being shot multiple times at close range by a pellet gun.

The cat’s owner, Nicole Crandell, says four-year-old Biggie, the nickname of the infamous rapper who was fatally shot in 1997, is recovering at home, but still has three pellets inside his body the veterinarian can’t remove.

“One is in the back of his neck, one in his chin, and one in his head,” said Crandell, who lives with her husband and two cats, Biggie and Smalls, in a house in the College Heights neighbourhood of Prince George.

Crandell said Biggie went missing on Nov. 3, and she thought he may have been eaten by a fox. But two weeks later, a veterinarian called to say the clinic had their cat and he had five or six pellet wounds.

A Prince George man, who lives about 20 kilometres away from Crandell’s house, had found Biggie suffering from the gunshot wounds, and took him to the area veterinarian.

“The vet told us that it looked like someone had held him down and shot him with the pellet gun at close range,” she said.

She said through social media, however, she has learned that other residents in her neighbourhood have complained about similar incidents with their pets.

She has filed a complaint with the B.C. SPCA, which is investigating the shooting.

Crandell is worried that the person who shot Biggie will do it again to her cats or her neighbour’s pets.

“I hope whoever did this gets caught,” she said.

She says Biggie is doing fine, and the pellets that are still lodged in his body don’t appear to be giving him any pain.

?? NICOLE CRANDALL ?? “Biggie” still has pellets lodged in its body, but is doing fine, says its owner. The person who shot the cat has yet to be found.
