Lumina blends urban convenience and nature

Urban amenities, access to green space on offer at Georgie-nominated community

- JODIE WARREN

Too often, homebuyers are having to choose between the convenience of an urban location over having access to nature.

Thind Properties has eliminated this need to compromise with Lumina, its master-planned community in Burnaby’s Brentwood neighborhood. Located between Alpha and Beta avenues off Dawson Street, Lumina offers a rare combination of both ideals, says Bonnie Leung, vice-president of marketing and sales for Thind Properties.

“The community is in the heart of Brentwood, but also far enough away that there is a sense of quiet and tranquility,” she says, noting that Lumina is also right across the street from a new 13-acre park currently in development. “Other developments in the area are typically along Lougheed Highway, where noise levels can be higher, but with this location, you are still able to easily access the highway, public transit and Brentwood Town Centre, and yet still feel like you’re not in the centre of things.

“Lumina is urban living in a sense of peaceful nature in the truest sense.”

Thind Properties is now preparing to launch Alpha, the third 23-storey tower that will be home to 131 one-, two-, and threebedroom homes, as well as a selection of townhomes. Interior features in Alpha are on par with the Waterfall and Starling towers, with the addition of a high-end Miele appliance package. Buyers can expect the same level of detail and quality in Alpha as is found in the previous phases, with features such as nine-foot ceilings, expansive windows and generous balconies. Two brandnew colour schemes will be available in the air-conditioned homes, accented by durable laminate flooring, elegant quartz countertops and European-inspired cabinetry.

The developer has assembled an impressive team for the Georgie-nominated community (the company earned nominations in the categories of Best Project Identity, Best Advertising Campaign, Best Sales Centre and the Grand Georgie Marketing Campaign of the Year). Chris Dikeakos Architects Inc., the renowned firm behind the tallest residential structure in San Diego (The Electra) and tallest pure residential highrises in Los Angeles (1027 Wilshire) and locally, Solo District and Station Square in Burnaby, is Lumina’s architect. Interiors are courtesy of Bob’s Your Uncle Design Ltd., founded in 2003 by Ada Bonini and Cheryl Broadhead. Known for work in both upscale private residences throughout the Lower Mainland as well as multi-family projects, the firm has won numerous awards, including, most recently, the Interior Designer’s Institute of B.C.’s Award of Excellence for the presentation centre in Brentwood Tower 1 in 2015.

As for Thind Properties, it brings 20 years of development experience to the project. Its founder — Daljit Thind — worked for many years in construction before starting his own company in 1996. Over the years, Thind has built over 1,000 homes — singlefamily, condominiums and townhomes in the Lower Mainland — and won Best MultiFamily Kitchen for its Skyway Tower in 2015.
