Holiday light displays add festive cheer, while raising funds for several charities

Bundle up, grab a Thermos of hot chocolate, pack the kids in the car and hit shuffle on your holiday hits collection: It’s time to take a tour of the biggest and brightest Christmas light displays around Metro Vancouver.

8222 BURNLAKE DR., BURNABY

This annual holiday display has added a few new items this year including a full-sized sleigh and reindeer on the front deck. The tropical parade has been spiced up to add a little more colour, and a snowman feature wall has also been added. The large cedar trees are decorated and the trunks are wrapped in hundreds of lights. Tune into radio station FM 92.3 to listen to the music of this display from the warmth of your vehicle. Accepting donations for the B.C. Children’s Hospital. • The lights are on from 4:30 p.m. to midnight until Jan. 7.

NORTH VANCOUVER CHRISTMAS LIGHTS FOR CHARITY

More than 100,000 lights including a star that hangs 86 feet in the air, plus lights that move to music and a driveway walking path with many blowups for the kids to enjoy. Accepting donations for three local charities: Harvest Project, Shriners Care for Kids and B.C. THE HO HO HO HOUSE!

The Woodmans have been lighting up their Steveston home for more than 30 years. Known as the Ho Ho Ho House, they create a little piece of the North Pole. Their display showcases thousands of lights, a candy cane walkway, multiple picture locations and Santa’s sleigh. 15499 22ND AVE., SURREY

For approximat­ely 20 years Ken and Bonnie have been decking out their home for the holidays, and this year they’re hoping to make it the biggest and best year ever. The yard is full of many displays and decoration­s including huge inflatable Santas, a polar bear, decorated trees and a whole lot more. The house twinkles with lots of colourful lights, including Santa and his reindeer on the roof, and a large Canadian flag. Accepting donations for Sources, SSWR Food Bank • 15499 22nd Ave., Surrey • The lights are on Sundays-Thursdays 5-10 p.m., Fridays-Saturdays 5-11 p.m.

The lights at this holiday display are set to music. The musical program lasts 30 minutes and starts on the hour. All the neighbours have participat­ed with outstandin­g displays, and hot chocolate and candy canes will be available for the kids every weekend. • 19056 63B Ave., Cloverdale • The lights are on until Jan. 1, 5:30-9:30 p.m.

6980 NAPIER ST., BURNABY

The master of exterior illuminati­on, Jim Barazzuol, sparkles the sky once again with his annual light display. Santa and his reindeer, the nativity scene, interactiv­e display, twinkling pathways and a 40-foot Christmas tree are just some of the highlights you may witness this holiday season. Most impressive­ly the entire yard is programmed to provide colour combinatio­ns among the thousands of lights that will leave every light goer in awe and astonishme­nt. A must see for light aficionado­s!
